Why Volunteer?
People have joined the firehouse for many different reasons, some of which may include: wanting to provide a community service; a new challenge; having a social outlet; wanting firefighter experience; a related personal experience or incident; and family tradition.
If you haven't yet answered this question, spend some time thinking about it. You will be asked why you wish to join during an applicant interview. It's important that the firehouse officers understand what motivates you and what your goals, interests and skills are, in order to make the best use of what you may offer the firehouse. In addition, your goals must be satisfied and your skills utilized within the fire department, or you will likely lose interest and eventually leave.
